    Overview

The Next Level of Private Practice journeys into practice development expert Howard Baumgarten's trademark "four R's." These R's include Risk, Referrals, Retention, and Resilience. Each of these four areas possesses specific meaning to the practice owner; meaning that is both general as well as highly specialized and unique to each healthcare practice.

As this 2-day training commences, the four R's are introduced and explained in general terms, along with a discussion of how this highly successful business development process came into existence.

Participants will explore or re-examine their inner personal experience(s) that led to their professional passions, while recording a personal passion narrative with pinpoint populations, techniques, theories and issues that are at the core of their professional personae. This is a crucial exercise whether just starting out or a seasoned clinician, as it helps with the centering process and either creates, fortifies, or rebuilds practice foundations.

Blue prints of business structure may be boring to some, however they are an important piece to the building of a solid and successful business "machine." A comprehensive healthcare business-planning template will be reviewed early in the training so that participants can create a new or revamp an existing business plan unique to their practice throughout the training.

Two types of Risk will be covered after lunch during the first day of the training. First, participants will learn about "risk management." Numerous methods will be shared for decreasing or limiting one's liability, thereby lowering risk in the business. The areas of risk management covered include legal, ethical, and financial risk management. It's not enough to practice just at or slightly above standards. This part of the training will help the owner practice at the highest level of integrity and protection possible.

The second type of Risk explored includes the process of taking calculated risks. Examples of such risks that are covered are the exploration of financial investment and growth models, as well as building unique healthcare programs that fit within your specialties.

Day two of the training will begin with a discussion on how to create and sustain a steady stream of referrals that are specific to the clients/patients you'd like to help. You will discover new and innovative methods for obtaining these referrals, including shoring up existing ideas that may not be working effectively enough. Creating appropriate networks as well as exploring different cost and time effective marketing strategies is essential to private practice success. These topics along with Howard's "Referral Wheel" are explored. Additionally, participants will learn more about payment models, including managed care, private pay, government sources, Employee Assistance Programs, grants, and other 3rd parties.

Once referrals are plentiful, and they are of course the right referrals for you, you will want to continue to work with your clients in a way that is clinically appropriate, ethically responsible, and business wise. In part 6 of the training, responsible client retention is discussed through a multi-phase treatment paradigm that serves as a guideline for both patient care and retention. If you are not yet using a multiphase treatment model of client growth and retention, this portion of the training alone will dynamically shift your mindset and thereby move your practice into a new and positive direction.

The fourth R, Resilience, is the final mechanism for bringing your practice to the next level! This topic, explored after lunch on day two, is all about maintaining a positive balance between your work and personal life. In this portion, participants explore how adversity creates opportunity for the owner to move toward personal resilience, and experience the outcome of professional growth. Compassion fatigue awareness and burnout avoidance strategies are explained. Additionally, participants will learn how to strengthen that balance through practicing routine self-care behaviors that are essential to thriving in both practice and life!

Wrapping it all up, you will have an opportunity to complete remaining areas in your individualized business plan, setting future realistic goals that will help get you and your practice to that next level. Diversifications in the four R's are reviewed and professional objectives mapped out toward a brighter and more successful practice!

    Why you should attend:

Whether struggling or succeeding in your healthcare practice, if just starting out or well into the journey, you may wonder whether you could be doing more to be successful. Do you find yourself from time to time asking the following questions? "What am I not doing that I should be doing? How do I grow and protect my financial resources, while focusing on providing excellent care? How can I obtain the right referrals, and create a steady patient/client flow in my business? How do I stand out as unique in this growing and changing field, without being lost in a sea of providers?"

If these questions aren't enough, there's always the statements practitioners make, such as:

"I wish I could clone myself since there's not enough time in the day to do everything." You ironically wonder how to manage your own stress and find balance, while helping your patients heal, reduce stress, and find balance in their own lives.

"Staying financially solvent is important, but I am uncomfortable dealing with money related matters, and I wonder whether I am receiving financial compensation at my current market value." This is another statement practice owners often think about.

You may simply wonder, "what is the next step in my journey as a practice owner?"

Whether these questions or concerns enter your mind as a practice owner or not, having the right tools to solidify your business foundation, and grow your business responsibly are of the utmost importance. This training will help guide you to make improved choices now and in the future. The practice development process is a vital part of successful ownership and management. Creating efficient yet thorough systems, with clinical integrity and strong ethical behavior is crucial. These concepts and numerous strategies are explored in this training.

Without this knowledge and these relevant and highly effective tools, practice owners may suffer consequences of reduced income; a lack of quality referrals, poor financial and practice management skills, compassion fatigue or burnout, and in extreme cases a failed practice.
