The water ways came into being in Northern Song Dynasty(960AD-1127AD), and according to the records the lakes were full of pleasure and business boats at that time and later some lakes were buried as time went by. In order to recover the prosperity of the water town and the water ways of Song Dynasty, on September 18, 1998 Guilin Municipal Government decided to launch the rebuilding project.
